Foundations of Buddhist Tantra Course
With Greg Patenaude, Jon Dilley and Alan Steenblock
June 8 - August 31, 2025
Join us on a Sangha led course on the Foundations of Tantric Practice.
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the foundations of Buddhist Tantra, especially as preserved in the Kagyu and Nyingma Tibetan traditions. We’ll examine the core principles, vows, and practices that distinguish the tantric path, and explore how they fit within the broader framework of the path.
You’ll learn:
-
The principles of the tantric view and its methods for awakening our buddhanature
-
The role of the guru, the meaning of empowerment, and the importance of samaya
-
How the generation stage works and how to practice correctly
-
What it means to progress through sadhana and begin the completion stage
-
Understand key frameworks like the Nine Yanas and the Six Yogas of Naropa
You’ll also receive practical guidance for engaging with tantric sadhanas, tantric altar setup, offerings, mudras, and the symbolic instruments of vajra, bell, and damaru.
Whether you’ve recently received empowerment or are looking to deepen your understanding, this course grounds tantric practice in its proper view and commitments so the path becomes clear and workable.
